Can someone tell me if there is a way for me to remove my phone number off of my credit report? I'm not sure how it got there, but I think HSBC put it there when I applied for a credit card from them late last year. My phone number wasn't on there when I checked my credit report early last year, but when I checked it this year I see its on there and now I'm getting phone calls from collection agencies even though the old baddies have fell off my credit report. They didn't have my phone number for 7 years. Of course I turned my answering machine off after the first 2 messages so that they can't leave me a message.
As far as I know, Experian lists your telephone number (among other things) on a summary type page at the end of the credit report you get in the mail. Citibank spelled my last name wrong in 1998 and it still shows up as an AKA. What is worse is that I made my brother an authorized user on a BofA card and Experian lists his name as my "spouse." (We are both guys and have typical guys names).
Main point here is that creditors have a lot of tools to find your phone number listed or not and most credit reports provided to the creditors from the bureaus have a list of aka's, previous names and addresses as well as possible phone numbers.

I have been in San Francisco since 1972, I was born down south, but my family still talks country and so do others around me. You hit one thing on the nose, people are more friendly down south than they are up this way, I experienced that when I was down south for 2 years, everyone spoke to you (Yes maam, No maam) and even the kids had respect. Kids up this way are strapped with guns and I get scared when they say hi to me...lol.
Hey, I got a good idea, why don't you copy and paste what you just typed about Kmart and HSBC in the blacklist thread, that is a very interesting comment you just made and I think a lot of others who are rebuilding should be able to see this and think twice about applying with HSBC. They can save on the inquiry from you help:relieved:

I really think it was HSBC that gave those collection agencies my home number. When the collection agency called me it was about a Kmart credit card I had in the late 90's that I didn't pay, but I also received a letter from a collection agency about that Kmart card after I had applied for a credit card from HSBC. HSBC was the one who issued the Kmart card. When I applied for a Best Buy store card a few months ago HSBC denied it and when I called to find out why they told me it was because I didn't pay the Kmart credit card. That was over 10 years ago and they put me on their blacklist just for that one card.
Meya I see on your profile you are in San Francisco. I also live in California and I know with that good personality you have you can't be originally from California. You have that good southern personality. Its hard finding someone here as friendly as you. Everyone here loves you, including me.

Hi Terry, welcome back! Well I can say that there are somethings that you can not take off your credit report. I tired to dispute an old address and I could not because it was put on there for reasons other than cc's. You can try to dispute it, and I wish you all the luck in the world, but I have to add one more thing, creditors do not have to just look at your cr for phone numbers, the use what is called "Clue Checks" and they can get that from many of other things even cross reference with a family member. Can someone tell me if there is a way for me to remove my phone number off of my credit report? Good luck!

Now this is the story of the year....lol. I like to hear when someone has taken the necessary steps to clear their own report instead of using some other outside source (who only makes it worse). That is a good deal and I would jump on in so fast until my head would start spinning. Keep it going, and make sure they stick to their side of the deal, YOU HAVE THE PAPERWORK TO FIGHT IT IF THEY DON'T!AWESOME NEWS EVERYONE!!! today i got a letter from them saying

it is the same one that i cannot figure out when payment is due, no statement, and online shows a 28.95 balance, but says no record of account activity for last month, and no minumim due, like no statement has been made for the month yet, but is due by the last day of the month.
Now I understand what's going on. If you made the purchase after March's statement closed, they will give you a due date and minimum payment amount when April's statement closes. That's how all creditors work.
For example, the closing date on my Macy's account is on the 2nd of each month. I want to buy a watch but I don't know when I should buy it. If I bought it today and if the transaction posted to my account before May 2, then I would have a minimum payment due by June 2nd. If I go ahead and buy the watch AFTER May 2, then I wouldn't have a minimum payment due until July 2 because my statement would close on June 2 and that's WHEN their system will generate a minimum payment and due date. It's all about timing.

upon receipt and clearance of a payment of $250 this account will be satisfied in full, and, as per your specific request, we will have our reporting of this account deleted with experian and transunion. i am going to take advantage of this, and then get a hold of another collection account, and try to get the same kind of offer and get it deleted. once a couple of these collections are deleted, my score should make a huge jump.

Reading some of the message boards on other sites I read that the collection agencies have put old baddies back on people credit report. I don't want that happening to me. I'm trying to rebuild my credit. I'm going to sign up for Credit Keeper. I'm hoping that's a good credit monitoring program. I just started rebuilding last year. When I checked my FICO score in November it was 663 and I'm not sure what it is now. I only have 2 credit cards and only want 1 more. This time I'm not going to over do it on getting credit cards. My credit will have to rebuilt on only 3 credit cards.

I do not believe that your scores will drop from a new account, but it will from too many new accounts (with inq's). Since the new account has a 0 balance, it really should not matter.
As for reasoning why some other get cc's with scores lower than yours, I will tell you why! Creditors use a many criteria they use before they offer credit to anyone. Scores are not the only factor that they judge us by, they judge us by,
1. history,
2. on time payments,
3. how many accounts we have with and without balances
4. Income vs Debt ratio
5. *Demographic areas*
6. Inquiries
7. Baddies
The list can go on and on, but unfortunately, I don't think anyone has a definite answer, we only know the basics. If you just received two new cards, I would wait before applying for anything else right about now, just focus on what you already have. On-Time Payments, low balances, and History is what really matters now.
Hope this helps!

kforbes96, scores are gonna drop with inq's regardless. Don't let that bother you at all, we can not expect our scores to only go up because they are up and down every day. Just keep your focus on the cards you have because creditors offer us credit to use it and if we don't they will close it. I used to be a heavy debit-card user (and still is) but these creditors got me purchasing things I refuse to finance such as gum, soda, newspaper, magazines, downloading music, candy...I can go on and on, but you know what I mean:laugh:
Just follow HJM331 advice above my post and you will be all good.
