How on earth can I be approved for an Amex card, but not the Old Navy card?? Where is the logic?! Old Navy offers good discounts for cardholders! Boo!
Yeah your right where is the logic behind that one?[/quote]

Hi iantha1, I think I would give them a call if I were you. This can mean something good or it can be bad, I dont want to break any bad news to you. I am not really familiar with those two cards, but here is a link that you can look at to see what members had to say about their approvals with them.

hi i have a Peebles card from WFNNB for about 12 years now and i haven't had any problems either and i have also applied for cards from there and got denied (sis this was when i was a credit card addict)
I was just approved for an Ann Taylor LOFT cc, yet I was denied the Victoria's Secret Card 3 months back due to "too many inquiries". These cards are both WFNNB cards.
WFNNB is inquiry-sensitive, I think. They are lenient and definitely do not blacklist, so I'm sure you were denied for reasons like "too many inquiries" or "high utilization" or something stupid like that.

When I worked for Mervyn's like 10 years ago, I would open new accounts at the register. Usually a "mail response" is a sign that the card application was declined, however that is not always the case. If a customer had a lot of credit or if there was a security issue the credit division would have to work those accounts instead of instant approval.
I remember that we had to first swipe another major credit card as a reference for credit but we were able to use those grocery store "coupon cards" you know, like Kroger/Fry's/Safeway because it would read as a Discover. This one girl came to my line and I offered the 15% so she tried, we swipped her grocery card and she was approved; she was so happy!
Too much info I know, but a mail response isnt always a bad thing.

hjm331 stated that he/she heard that if you had a previous American Express card and closed it when you open a new account they give you your old account history. So if you opened an AMEX in 1987 and closed it in 2000 and then reapplied in 2008 your card would say member since 1987. I couldnt tell my the posting if that was just a "member since" thing or if it applied to the actual credit reporting as well.
Is that really true? I had an AMEX Gold that I opened in 1999 which now sounds like a long time ago (Got to love that Member Since date). Anyway I closed it in 2005 because I couldnt justify the anual fee. I actually called this weekend to see if a closed account could ever be reopened and the rep said no.
I would like an American Express Optima (you have to have a Centurian on your Amex or it doesnt count!) and would love it to say Member Since 99 on it.
Can anybody verify this?

I just got my updated credit report and my fico score is now 574 . so its has moved up about 25 points.
Now the question i have is. I appl for the kay jewlers cc and the bloomingdales cc and after i applied they both asked me 3 sec questions(like they do on credit reports) but after that they said i will rec a letter in 20 biz day(application still under review)
Is this a good thing or bad thing ?? I mean normaly if your turned down they tell you write off the bat. But this was a little diff ?? Please shed some light on this for me every one.
