Has anyone got several credit cards from one bank? I have Jc Pennys, Dillards, Walmart, Gap and Old Navy. From what I have researched they are backed by GEMB. They are all new with Dillards and Pennys being the oldest which was opened in August.
My question is would this impact other creditors extending me credit. I have applied to Macy, Kohls, which I was denied. Just wanted to see if this has happened to others.
Thanks for all of the replies to my question.
Another point is that when I apply online, I seem to get a reply from GEMB via email that they could not identify me. I get approve when I go to the store after applying online. It just seem strange that they cannot identify me when I have several of their cards

Yendor, the only way you will find that out is if you apply for one of their cards. I was approved for a Macy's card last year but denied for their Platinum Select Mastercard. That is their easiest card to get approved for. It's worth a try, good luck.

Greetings RivasGlo.... Glad to see there is a person from citi here.
My question is; If I am being approved for only Retail Level cards issued by citi bank, (macy's, sears,) etc., when there's a Visa/M.C. level availible, Is this a good indicator that I would not be approved for any CitiBank Master Card at this time?
I have that issue. I have a Macys, Shell, and ExxonMobil cards, which are all issuedor serviced by Citi. I have been in good standing with them but I cant seem to get an actual Citi credit card. Its denial upon denial. Im hoping that in due time they will see that I am capable of holding one of their regular cards and give me one.

I agree with Cireone when it comes to applying for store cards from the same lender. I was approved for a Lowe's card a few months ago but denied for a JcPenney's card two weeks ago. Funny thing is, but cards are offered by GEMB. Go figure.

GEMB will give you credit for more than one retailer. But each retailer may have its own criteria in extending credit to you, for instance, it is easier to get a Old Navy card over a Gap or Banana Republic. I think the only thing thatll hurt is if you have low limits on each card, and usually they give those. Then again if your credit is good enough, you may get the Visa, Mastercard or Discover associated with the retailer, which usually comes with a higher limit.

Nope dont think so. I work for Citicards and have seen customers with like 10+ different cards from us - mix of gas cards/retail/mc/amex! Its amazing to see how many cards 1 bank will give. Each bank is different so some may only extend credit up to a certain amount. With GEMoney, it seems like they will hand out just about any Retail Account.

I don't think it can hurt you. I have two Chase cards (Chase Freedom and the Amazon.com Visa). But don't put all of your eggs in one basket. The reason that I say that if one company does something like give you a credit limit decrease, you can put those cards in time out (sock drawer) and use others.

That's a good question & I do not have the answer but am interested in seeing the answer. I also was recently approved for a Walmart & JC Penney. I do have a signature loan with HSBC (cl $14,00.00) & was recently approved for a Sears Solutions MC $600.00 & Discover Rewards $450.00. I also have an orchard Bank credit card with $1000.00 (this card is 3 years old) So I don't think it hurts.

Inquiries stay on your report for 2 years but stop effecting your score in 1 year.

I think I am through with trying to get more credit..i think 3 cards are good enough for now. About how long do you guys think it will take for an inquiry that was made in march to fall off the cr? I tried for quite a few and i think its about that time to stop.

Pumbaablah, you are doing the right thing and have obtained the right cards. I too have a WaMu card and when I was approved for the account, they gave me my highest CL which was $2k back then. I haven't had any problems. They do give you very generous limit especially when you are coming from secured cards or cards like First Premier. Some people might consider them sub-prime but I think that they are prime but are generous enough to extend credit to sub-prime consumers.

I think WAmu is more then okay card for rebuilding. If you know where you stand financially and dont go overboard. I will actually be able to use this card on a daily basis and not have to worry about maxing out or anything. I use my bofa and orchard to buy snacks only. Thats it! Cant do too much with a $300.00 limit. Never have I charged over $20.00 on them each month. Never carry a balance.
