Thanks Colonative
Her score is in the mid 700's
Mid 700's and not a lot of inquiries is a good thing. Make sure you shop around for the best card.
SMCC brought up a great point about your step monster possibly using an established account. I can see why you might open a new one though, so that you know the balance is yours and you alone pay it off.
SMCC..She already tried BofA and was declined which is why I mentioned Chase, Citi and Discover.

Being a BOA customer I would have suggested with a score in the middle 700's that she apply for a BanKAmericard or a Visa Signature because the minimum opening amount on the Signature would be $10K
Delci06, does your relative have enough assets with any bank to collaterize a loan ? Again like Colonative said, you would not want to let them know your going to pay down some payday loan places.
Could your relative Delci06 ask for a credit line increase on an established card vs opening a new account to resolve your issue ?
Colonative has given you great avenues on how to secure the money you need
Congrats on your impending marriage DELCI06, I hope you and your husband to be have a sound repayment plan so to cut down on the cost to whomever to provide the funds needed

which creditcards r bk friendly now
It kind of depends on how recent the bky was and who was included. Usually within a few months of having a bky discharged you will have Capital One knocking on your door. Make sure you answer that one. If you included a bank in your bky then I would say your chances are really low of getting another one from them.
If you are filing bky or just filed, hang tight and see who pre-approves you.
If you did not include HSBC (Orchard) or Capital One in your bky then try them first. Otherwise, I strongly suggest a secured credit card from Citi, BofA, US Bank or from your credit union (if you didn't include them of course). Stay away from First Premier, Salute, Continental Finance et al.

Hello,
I had a quick question. I posted something about needing to pay off some payday loans and that my stepmother was going to co sign for me, well someone said I should get a credit card instead. Do I need something with balance transfer or cash back reward, I am kinda confused on this. I have to pay about 4,000 in payday loans and am getting married in a couple of weeks and need some cash from the card.
I've been researching today b/c we tried for a loan with Bofa and were declined b/c she paid her capital one card late about 2 yrs ago. so I think it is going to be harder to get a personal loan and easier to get a credit card. I was told I should try Citi bank or Chase.
Thanks
Margaret
Hey Delci, yeah, I suggested that your step monster get a credit card instead of a loan. When I suggested that I figured your step monster could get balance transfer checks. BofA is the best for that but you could also try Chase. Do you know what your step monsters credit score is? I would hate to see her apply in vein for teir 1 cards if she is not eligible.
The thing to remember though is that you might need to call them to apply since you will need to ask for balance transfer checks-I don't know if you can do a balance transfer on an online application for payday loans. Do you live in a town with Chase? If not, call this number: 1-800-432-3117; you may have to press 0 to speak with someone regarding wanting to apply. I wouldnt freely advise them that your step monster is applying to pay off your payday loans, just let them know that you need checks for balance transfers. Just go with a basic card like their Platinum Visa, they offer interest rates from 9.9% - 18.9% depending on the credit worthiness and they are offering 0% for 12 months with the standard 3% balance transfer fee. Also look into Citibank for their Platinum Select MasterCard also 0% for 12 months with the 3% fee. I tried to find a new account phone number but I can't find one; but their # for cardholders is 1-800-950-5114, just listen to the prompts and press 0 to speak to someone-unless you live somewhere that has a Citibank branch. Again, apply and let them know that you need the checks to be sent to you. If you have several payday loans then only use one balance transfer check and deposit the whole amount into your or your step monsters checking account, then write a personal check to them, because if you use separate balance transfer checks each time you will incur another 3% fee for each check.
When all else fails, both Citi and BofA offer lines of credit. They are basically a revolving line of credit tied to checks-they work very similar to credit cards except you don't have a card and the repayment is usually a fixed payment. However, the interest rates are higher.
Also maybe try Discover. 1-800-DISCOVER. They have an option to apply for a new account. Just remember with Discover once the 12 months of 0% expires they use dual cycle billing which means they can charge interest on your new statement plus the previous months.
I am also not advising you to try Chase, then Citi then Discover, if your step monster is declined for another account you may have to find another option-too many inquiries will ruin any chance of getting a new card. Go to each bank's website and research which product might be best for you and your step monster. Then when you have found the best one with the terms you can live with apply for that one.
I hope this doesnt confuse you, if it does let me know.

Thanks again iantha1! I actually emailed their customer service and they said that they do report to the credit agencies. Now I have to email back and see if that is on a regular basis or only if you are late making a payment. I don't know how much my limit with them is yet, CS called and said I was approved but I needed to do a small down payment of $14 (?). She said that I just get my letter in the mail soon(my order was for about $120). As far as CJ goes I don't want to use them too much, jewelery can be one of my downfalls, I just want two rings and then pay them off to get my score up.
They told you they report ? Thats odd becouse i called them and the Lady of i spoke with said. No we dont report but we will if you dont pay .......

Thanks iantha1 for info. I just moved into my new place so I ordered some things from to make the house feel homey
Your very welcome. I did look over the site and they have some very nice things on there. Im thinking they are still a new company and have not got enough customers to be able to report to the credit br's. Maybe one day in the furure they will. But any way i did place an order for a nice gps system for my car. And i saw a few other things .
Now as fare as crown jewelers goes. I have had no problem with them and they are reporting fine. I have bought 3 products from them and i also got them to increase my credit line to 3000. Every time i email them the respond very quickly and also i have there direct number if you need it just incase you want ot hear a voice behind the products. I no some other companies just like them. And they have my transunion credit scores kicking like Brue Lee. Im pretty sure thats how i got my merrick bank card is becouse of that. Ill do some more research with google and dogpile.com and dig up some more credit building treats. . And fill you in later.

Hjm331,
Thanks for the reply, Every card I have applied for has asked for some form of identification because they could not identify me. I have had to go into 4 stores after applying online and provide them with requested items. I have had to call and now I am being asked to send more personal information. I would love to have a capitol 1 card and will send the items they ask for. I just wanted to know if this has happened to others?
Have you checked your credit reports to see if there's a fraud alert on them?
