I was just getting ready to close my HSBC Discover card and logged on and was like what!? They gave me a $500 CLI to $2000.00 Still don't understand these CC for the last 8 months of playing with terms, interest rates, CL decreases, annual fee's leading up to Feb 2010 cc changes going into play. May just keep this card open now and use it once in while to keep it active.

Wow, a $2K HSBC Discover card! Does anybody know if HSBC still counter offers the Direct Rewards card to people who were declined from Discover while applying online? I have not heard anything about the HSBC Discover in a long time.

It was not from Orchard, Orchard is a way to go for beginners. I think you maybe talking about their secured card. I started with them back in 2004 and my first initial limit was $300! I only gained like $1k in 6 yrs. My husband was stuck with Pledge ( I believe) I was so upset about that card until I went crazy on him. It was a few cards that he had back in the days which had upfront fees, and some I had made him send back. Orchard is a pretty good card to gain history from, but if anyone think that it is a card to profit high util and constant cli's they better thing again.

Congrats on your CLI! It may not be much, but believe me, i've helped others with rebuilding with an HSBC product. They are pretty good, i have the Premium card, started out at 2900$, have had a few years now, already up to 6k. I've thought about closing it, but haven't, because these days anyone can close or cld an account.
The friends who i have counseled, opened an Orchard account. Started at 300$, and i tell them to religiously call every 6 months for a cli. They have usually always gotten anywhere from 100$-500$. It's usually 100-200$ per increase, and the fee may vary from 10$-25$ per increase. Sometimes no fee at all. That's the secret to getting anything out of them. They say the "review" all accounts periodically, but you can wait until eternity to see one. The key is to call, and in some time, you'll have a respectable limit. I've known people on the MYFICO boards who have called weekly, and have gotten an increase. They are stingy to say the least. I think they like heavy heavy usage, and lots of payments. If you do call, make sure your balance is no more than 10% of the current line.
It sounds like you're well educated; however, I would never suggest an Orchard card. From people's stories here you normally end up with $200-$300 in fees upon opening the account. I know Meya's husband had this happen to him. I would rather send my clients to a local credit union for a secured card before an Orchard card. Anyway. Good luck in helping people re-build their credit.

Thanks and even though my limits are smallish, I'm only using the cc's to rebuild. They use me, I use them
That's the spirit!

Congrats on the CLI Ms. Kiwi! The $100 CLI might not look a lot on paper but it could be the difference between making a purchase for $300 or not when you're short on cash.

Congrats on the increase ! The CLI high is always good no matter how much ! Its good you have a plan to reach your goal of a car. One thing I do know is that when you finance something like a car. After you you pay on it ontime for a little while. You will see a increase in your score.

Thanks for the congrats, I'm suprised because it was an increase from HSBC and it resulted in NO hard pull. I about fainted. LOL
The only way I'm going to have a car loan is if I have about a 60% down paymert. I would much rather have zero debt, if I can at all help it. My goal is to be debt free!
