I got a Chase Business Plus Ink credit card 2 months go with a $15K limit (which I will never use). This month they contacted me asking if I wanted to increase it to $35K. I told them no b/c that is just completely unnecessary.

Sometimes I will just get an automatic increase email alert. I am surprised you don't have to do that through a request.

I have a lot of credit cards, but typically only use 1-3 each month. A united credit card I use often just increased by limit 2x! I don't need it and don't plan to spend more than I normally do. I was very surprised how large the increase was.

Walmart did an auto conversion store to MasterCard last year. Just got another auto increase from $6300 to $7500.

I just got approved for a personal line of credit with Home Depot for $5,000. I have had a business account with them for a few years so I don't think that hurt me.

I apologize for not answering you sooner, Egghead. He sold the house, so that took care of the mortgage payments and we never did address the repossession because it just seemed too big to tackle, so we gave the car back and walked away from it. I waited a year to put some distance between him and the negative hits his credit report took. I started with a First Premier card and they gave him a $350 credit line, which obviously isn't great, but I was just happy that we didn't have to go in the direction of a secured card. A couple of years after that, he was approved for a $1,500 credit line with GE and then Chase and Capital One fell into place with credit lines in the thousands. I wasn't sure at the time if I was doing the right thing, but I guess my method was okay since he's got a great credit rating today. Divorces can really make a mess of the finances.

That's an inspiring story Fran. Did you wait a year to get some of the debt paid down? Could you share the first steps you took to rebuild his credit? Thanks.

Credit Limit was $5K, online request to 8K was approved, tried a few moments later for $10K and that increase was approved to. At the moment this account has a zero balance. I have made good use of it but paid it off quickly. Pleasantly surprised.

That is an incredible success story Wanderer! I have never heard of anyone getting their scores from 400 to the 800s. That is truly amazing!!! The diligence, patience, and effort you must have put in really is a great example. The fact that you get to see the benefit as well must make you feel pretty great!

That's really great, Wanderer! Congratulations! It definitely pays to manage credit and it's such a good feeling when you get into a position to be approved for pretty much anything (within reasonable limits).
When my husband and I first met eight years ago, he had recently gone through a nasty divorce that left him with delinquent mortgage payments and an auto repossession, among some other smaller credit infractions. I waited about a year and then started working on rebuilding his credit and he now has hefty credit lines with Chase and Capital One and he gets offers from Discover and AmEx every week. A recent car loan was no problem and they even gave us a great interest rate. I remember how discouraged my husband felt about his credit eight years ago and now here we are talking to our local bank about a land loan in the coming year. It's great when you get back on stable ground.

Opened my Discover Card in 2011 at $2,000 and six months later received and auto increase of $250. Then I waited and waited. Finally I called in about 18 months later for a SP increase to $5,000. It sat and I called in again a year after that and they increase it to $6,500. Again it sat and May 2015 I started pushing SP increases and finally it moved to $14,500 December 2015. Figured it should be at that level (similar to other cards - don't believe Discover does CL increase matching). Coming back from the FICO Scores of the 400 back in the early 2001's to today has been a long road. It took over ten years before Discover would open an account for me so it feels good. Suspect my FICO Scores helped as they finally grew into the 800s two years ago and I have not been seeking credit. Goal a FICO Score of 850 (300 to 850) with today's score at 838 just to show me it pays to manage credit.
