Congrats. Was it automatic or did you request it? It might seem small now, but Capital One will grow with you if you handle your finances correctly.

Sweet deal! How long have you had your card? It's nice to hear that capone is doing increases again. October will be 2 years with my card and I'm still at the 1k CL as well and I use it heavy and PIF every month.

Colonative - as to your feelings about American Express, I can only say that no one ever treated me better as a client than American Express. Today, there still is no one (noted however that AX really blew it through this economic downturn).

I closed my American Express Cards when the market became flooded with Visas' and Mastercards' with better rewards, lower APR's, no AF and so on along with the introduction of the World Mastercards' and the Visa Signatures' Bank Cards which in the beginning had prestige (before everyone seemed to qualify - the masses if you will - no elite behavior here). Also, the acceptance was universal for visa and mastercards so I let my American Express relationship's go. The American Express Platinum Charge Card with the $450 AF used to be an eye catcher when I flashed it.

Closures were not due to their treatment of me as a client. The card market has changed so much in the last ten years the only real regret I had was that American Express never tried to be accepted everywhere which limited my use along with the glut of prestigious bank credit cards that diluted the appeal.

Good to hear. I think Amex has tried to be accepted in more places but since they charge a higher fee to merchants, the merchants have not wanted to accept Amex and Amex has not backed down on their fees. I have found most places I frequent now accept Amex.

Well I am 31 so I am assuming you are older LOL.

Hey..hey...hey, I go back to when the First National Bank of Wilimington converted my :cc: gold Mastercard with an upgrade to the "new" World Mastercard with a no "preset spending limit" (actually I had a $12,000 revolve line - then above that on a case by case basis as a "no-preset" spending limit). An unheard of concept back then (1986...?).

GADS! I am starting to sound older than you are... (never mind!!!).

Everyone here goes crazy over American Express. I have had the AX Platinum Centurion Card $20K CL no AF, AX Platinum Charge Card $450 annual fee and virtually every other American Express Card (Gold, Green with special CL's) except the AX Black Card and the AX Blue Card.

From my own actual "hand's on " experience, there are equal or better cards in the market so why the fascination? I closed all my American Express Cards and moved the business to other cards that I could rely on and as to status, from the 1950's to the early 1990's yes American Express was the "...bee's knees...". in my observation of today's world, there are too many cards in the market place for most of them to carry the status they once did.

I like my Chase "Freedom Rewards" Card, as I have pulled over $400 in cash since May 2009. Not bad. That is my reality check.

It has been my perception that most here are Amex haters. To each their own. I have always really enjoyed my Amex's and the service I have received was always top notch. I also like how they backdate future accounts to your original year of membership. That is not to say that they are the best of the best and they certainly injured their reputation during the Great Recession.

I received my 8th pre-approved application for a Chase Freedom card this weekend. They are just as bad as WaMu was with those things.

Chase suggested setting up all the regular household bills (electric, cable, telephone, car payment, auto/home owner insurance, life insurance, natural gas, internet, etc) up to be paid by Chase and then pay Chase off. It keeps volume running through the account, regular activity and good payment record.

Good to know. I just charged $5 on mine this weekend. LOL

All - you got'ta wonder about the big boy banks. I just had Chase increase my Business "Freedom Rewards" Ink account credit line after they decreased it two weeks ago. It was $10K and they lowered it to $2.5K and just increased it back to $10K after we had a "fireside chat". Still has "elite" pricing at 12.24% purchases 19.24% cash with no AF and 3 for 1 on points for the top three categoies every month out of fifteen (categories change every month based on your prior month's usage pattern) and 1 for 1 points on the remaining twelve categories.

I see the business/financial side of banking but, I wonder where the human side went? Yes, you can go to credit unions and small or regional banks, I just moved from Wells Fargo Bank NA to a local five branch bank that treats me like a king (a human if you will) but, where is a big bank's customer base going to be (still there...! people talk a good game but few take action)?

I have had many bank cards over the years (started 1973 to today) and most store clerks and shop keepers only care that the card works. So in a very finite limited environment does anyone really care. It is all about the "...rubber hitting..." the road for what the consumer/business owner likes.

Wow!!! I guess the Chase Freedom card is really a good rewards card. I received a letter in the mail last month from Chase. They said they were changing my Chase Visa Perfect card to Chase Freedom Visa. They said it had better rewards as well as the blueprint feature. Said I would receive my card by the end of April. Seems like a long time to me! However it will still have the same low interest rate of 8.99 %. Which supprised me it always seems like anytime they give you something better. They take one thing away. I have to say I'm still happy with Chase though. Now if they would just do a CLI on that account! It's still at $2400 CL started at $1400 3 yrs ago consolidated two WAMU cards onto it. On a good note they did approve me last year for united rewards signature visa $5500 CL I've already used some of the reward miles for a flight. Definately worth the $60 annual fee.

Even thought it's a touching story... I think big banks still suck. Lol, nice job Wanderer, you did well. Did you send an email to them or something? :o

Chase

Maybe we will call you wonderer instead of wanderer LOL. So they just called you out of the blue? They did that to me many years ago when they were still Chase and not First USA. I had a balance on the card and transferred it off to another card. Someone from Chase called to see if there was anything they could do to win back my business. So what tips did she give you for avoiding an automatic CLD?
