Well, no one can really say no to "free money" but if consumers think smart, they will think if it's really worth it to do business with a bank that didn't appreciate their patronism in the past.

Not to mention, the big banks who offer an incentive to open a checking account with them will have you running through hoops before they give you a dollar out of their own pockets.

The money they are saving now from reducing overall exposure is going to be used to market their products in order to bring their customers back.

I wonder if it will work.

I know right? They have ticked off so many people, eventually it will bite them in the rear.

Joeyman, congrats on the new approval! That's definitely a nice starting limit and as long as you prove yourself as a responsible borrower, they will have no problem bumping up your CL.

I agree with Wanderer. With the way things are right now, CU's and local banks are the crowd favorites. They offer higher interest rates on deposits accounts than the big boys do, truly free checking, and best of all, they don't cut your limit and jack up your interest rate.

All - piece of thinking... even though everyone is excited about online banking, mobile banking and the like... (can't blame you it is pretty cool), I have found (I am an old guy) that dealing with your local or regional bank(s) meaning your local geographical area stills helps you the most. Credit Unions are local or regional. I have pursued all the avenues from one bank to regions to national and still find the best in the small or regional banks. Examples can be in the savings and checking rates, CD's (look at the big boy banks rates - not even worth holding your money for one to three years 0.10% to 0.90% give me a break). Over the many years banking has been a big game and roller coaster. Today you still might be able to get what you really need and want at your more locally based bank/credit union (car loan, RV, home equity loan or maybe home loan?). Check this out. Joeyman has been and found opportunity. I have been at a credit union that handled all my needs and treated me like I was of value to them (more than the big boy banks). Also, in the end your debit, credit cards and checks carry no more weight in the banking system from small banks to big banks...! :white-flag:Think about it!!!

Just got approved for a credit union visa! Limit is $1,000 and APR is 9.24%-15.25%, I don't know specifically yet. It's from Unitus Community Credit Union - out of Portland, Oregon. My experian score was 714, and others I "think" were 685-715... They used the same credit report from my auto loan. =D

Well Citibank did it again! When I checked my Shell Platinum Select Mastercard online the CLI button showed up. I just got one back in October 09 for $800 and now Febuary 10 another $1000. For a total of $2300 CL which is great for a gas card for me. I wonder if the reason that it was less than their usual 6 months time frame. Maybe they are preparing before the impending legislation kicks in. The reason I say this is because a lot of people have posted CLI's From Citibank.

Well you guys know what I think? I think they are going to be digging deep into the debt-to-income-to-credit availability on consumers (or applicants). I know banks are out to make money, but they focus very hard on risk factors also. I think the "Looks like we can give him/her a chance" is over with. History and income is going to be the number one priority. My reason, in the near future, they are going to look back at our current economic crisis, and focus on those who maintained their credit and assets through it all.

Banks took a loss through its customers as well as they did through their rip-off top officials, and bad decisions. These rip off creditors with the 90% up front fees are going to be banned, and the tier banks are going to invest a new bank (in some weird name) with a ton of insurance for those with the fair credit. Wait and see!

Could be. But that is probably what they said about the Savings and Loan crisis too....and obviously we did not learn from that. I think that the creditors will have to have products for people with less than perfect credit because, well there are so many. Because our economy depends on consumers, I think credit will be available, just not as much....
