I am using my Discover card sparingly because I want to get the balance down on it. It is my highest balance and my second is my Chase Freedom (stupid holidays). I will get there. I think with the credit meltdown that came after the housing crisis, lenders are not giving CLI's as freely as they once were.

Does anyone have any information about Discover Card CLI policy? I have had my card a year with a clean payment history and I have not received a CLI.

Discover looks at your utilization with the card, but also at the bigger picture of your credit. That was before the housing crisis; however, and I read an article that Discover will be a little more discerning of their CLI's going foward.

One word of caution, do not waste an inquiry on a CLI by asking for one. Just keep using the card and you should get one soon.

I have had my Discover More since April and have gotten no CLI from them. They did lower my APR from 18.99% to 17.99%. Right now, paying down my current debt is a little more important, getting CLI's is secondary. I try really hard to make sure that all my bills are paid on time. I may have been late on paying my Sears Mastercard over a year ago, but everything is paid on time.

I've heard that they give auto CLI's every 6 months as long as your account is in good standing.

Forget it. Don't even think of applying for it. I have heard of so many stories about people getting approved for a low limit that's not even half the cost of the computer they want to buy. Save your inquiry for another lender, Juniper is a mess. They are currently reducing the lines and raising interest rates of their best customers.

I am in total agreement with you hjm331, kalel89 don't waste your time

Hi ColoNative,
I have the following cards,
Capital one, hooters, bestbuy Reward Zone, Union Plus, ESPN, credit one (one of my first cards) HSBC Discover, My scores Vary depending on where I get them...Ex has me at 621 Eq 593 this according to Credit keeper...I also have a few GE money accounts that are over two years old going on three.Meya and others have been a big help i'm not going to apply for any more credit for at least a year. Gonna see where that gets me. I must say i'm a bit addicted and the offers don't help i received another sweat deal from capital one the other day I promply sredded it to avoid the temptation. Thanks for the advice

Hawk: sounds like you have some decent cards in your mix (ESPN and Cap1). You are on the right track by not applying for any new credit next year. I would suggest applying for a real Discover in 2010 and get rid of that HSBC Discover and maybe see if they will convert your Best Buy MasterCard into a store card.

I understand the temptation to apply for new credit, I have been there before but from experience I can tell you now that it is best to take it slow and let things age.
