Hey Rivas, I just ding-dong something. After reading interjack new thread in regards to subprime and prime banks , I just remembered that we have a link here for cards that accepts someone with no credit . Click the link to each and see what you think would be great for him. There are 6 pages worth of them, and I seen a few that may interest you.

With this credit climate, I would probably have to recommend that he go for a secured card. I don't think any bank will give him an unsecured credit card. A few years ago, CCC's would have been eager to give him a card with no history.

He may have a shot at the Chase Freedom Visa, but I don't know what the credit scores are. Chase likes to see that you have already established credit and have a good solid payment history. Chase really does not like to see any baddies like a BK, charge offs and the like, especially if they are recent.

He doesnt have a credit card of his own. Chase gave me my first CC, the Chase Flexible Rewards. But w/ this credit crunch who knows if they will for him. I dont want his inquiries to add up.

I think you should let him apply for cards who accepts those with little or no history. I do believe Chase has one.

Did he apply for the right card? He needs to apply for the cards listed under "limited history" such as this one] https://www.financeglobe.com/Finance/card674.php [/U]

The cards without rewards have been easier to get approved for based on my experience.

Thanks for ur response HJM and Meya!

HJM] I am not sure which one he actually applied for.

When would he be able to apply for another Cap One... ie. every 30, 60, 90 days... Anyone know?

Meya] I will look into that for him, since he banks w/ Chase too!

Does anyone know how often someone can apply for a Capital One Card???

A little background

My brother applied for a Cap One on 11/13/08 and was denied. I do not know the reason bc he threw away the letter he received before I got a chance to read it. I will assume it was because of no credit file/history or maybe bc I had recently added him as an AU on my Cap One. I requested him to be added to my Cap One Card on 10/27/08 and it started reporting on 11/10/08... So I went ahead and had him apply for it on 11/13/08 but was denied...

He only has 2 inquiries.
10/16/08 - RadioShack (his actual place of employment)
11/13/08 - Capital One

Should he just wait like 6 months before applying for anymore credit? I really want him to get a Cap One of his own rather than getting retail/gas card. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!!

Thank you for your advive I will start there. I was just afraid to apply for a credit card and then have my score knocked down and get denied. We have stayed away from all credit cards for the past 5 years because we did not want to get into the trouble we got into last time.
Thanks

edavis3236, you're in the right place. The most important part of building credit is opening new credit card accounts. I would try the HSBC Pre-Selector which is a soft pull and they check to see if you qualify for any of their cards.

Here's the link:

If you qualify for their Platinum Mastercard or 2% Mastercard, I would suggest you apply for it. Just fill out the form and follow the instructions. These cards will come with an annual but it's a small price to pay when you think about them giving you another chance at building credit.

Another card that I would apply for is a Capital One card. I wouldn't apply for one of their reward cards because they seem a little harder to get approved for than the cards without rewards.

You will not hurt your score if you apply for a few cards that you need because you need credit cards to build credit or else your scores will never increase.

I recommend you apply for this Capital One card and even though it has a high interest rate, it's a variable rate so it can be reduced in the future when you maintain a good payment history with them.

I do not know if I am asking my question in the right place but what the heck I'll try. I am new to this and need some help. My husband and I filed ch. 7 bankruptcy 5 years ago and are now wanting to rebuild are credit. We have stayed away from all credit up until now. The only thing we owe on is my student loans which are not very much. I have a credit score of 650 and my husband has one of 599. If we apply for credit cards can we even get approved? Also if we apply and get a card will that hurt what little score we have or help. I am just afraid of hurting what I do have. What is the best one to apply to first?

We want to try and buy a house this year and we have a good down payment saved up so we need to know the best way to increase our score.
