1. HSBC Mastercard (had to send in $19 or $29)
2. Bofa Secured
3. Macy's (that's only because HSBC reported to CB in time)
4. Mervyn's (Before it closed down)
Everything else was denied, denied, denied, for insufficient credit history on file. Good Luck! Alright Kiejon, you haven't been gone that long, even you should know that by now:laugh:

The best credit card ? That's a loaded question That depends on how you define the "best credit card"
I think he means what is the best overall card for someone new to credit.
I would try Capital One or get a secured BofA Visa.

- cash rewards
- ability to garner rewards points with no limit or expiration
- world wide acceptance
- perks associated with the card i.e. Road Side assistance, concierge, etc.
- High credit limit
I would say research the credit cards based on your credit score and find which one fits the objectives you have set out for a credit card.

Hi, everyone. my transunion score just jumped to 587 this week. highest it has been in years!! i am stoked about it. the bad part is that my other 2 scores are way lower. equifax is only 497 and experian is 520. reason being transunion has no inquaries and the others do and my highest limit account only reports to transunion. that being said, what credit cards pull transunion to approve that i could get approved with a 587 score? i am ready and trying to move to better cards with less fees than the sub prime cards i have right now.
I am not sure of many creditors that pull TU. It seems most pull Experian. Honestly, my advice would be to wait until your Experian gets closer to the 600 mark and I would apply either for Capital One or see if you can get pre-approved for a BofA secured Visa.

Ok, what cards do you have now? About how long have you had them? What do your inquiries look like? I believe there is a link here with what cards pull from which bureau. Perhaps another member could help us out on this.

Excellent. Congratulations on your new card. Let us
know the CL and APR when you get it
the one thing i like about their pre approval website is that it tells you your credit limit(which is 4k by the way) and my apr is 0%for one year on balance transfers and purchases to which the csr at card services said the when i called for the info.i though i would never apply for a bank of america card but reading good things about them(plus i bank with them)from members here i decided to apply.Discover and Amex will be considered down the line someday but for now i am going to enjoy these 3 prime cards at the moment. thanx again everyone....

I JUST SPENT $30 PAID TO ALL THREE CREDIT BUREAUS TO PULLED MY SCORES - MY RECENTLY SCORES ARE
Scores are not everything anymore. Banks are beginning (especially with new accounts) to be a lot more conservative because of the CARD Act that our King has passed that will go into effect in 2010. Generally speaking the banks try to match your highest credit line. If you only have cards with limits under $1,000 a new bank probably won't give you much more then that. Additionally, though your income is good, the banks have formula's that generate your highest possible credit line. So if you have a mortgage and a car loan on top of other credit cards, they may feel that your $42K salary is not high enough to warrant $10K limits. I cannot stress enough that times have changed. Credit card approvals are already getting tougher, credit lines will be smaller and APR's will be higher.
I would take a year off from applying, try to get that Visa card at a higher limit and then see if you can get pre-approved for an Amex on their website (through a soft inquiry).

They might just need to have you speak with someone in Card Services (fraud department). Just a warning, they will probably ask a lot of personal questions, almost your blood type I kid you not. I don't have their number, but if you go to the BofA website you should get a pop up where you can chat with a live person. Accept that and ask them for Card Services phone number. Just seriously be prepared for some grilling..
