Adam! We might need to get you into the credit addicts club! LOL. Maybe in 6 months to a year see if Target will upgrade your account to a Visa. Or did you get the Visa?

i got the regular red card(500$ limit)....i heard that there is a trick that you use the store card couple times, then pay it off..then go to target and try to use your own debit card.....then you get a preapproaval for traget visa...what do you think...?

Congrats! Now that's what I'm talkin' about! Just when you thought you had ran out of options, SURPRISE!

Sorry to burst your bubble but don't rely on the Best Buy Mastercard to purchase any large ticket items. The limits they approve you for aren't really that high if they approve for the gold card. It's not really a card that will grow with you but if you need the computer and want to pay it off in a couple months, I would wait 3 or 4 months and apply for the Best Buy store card. They always offer 0% interest for 12 or 18 months so it's nice to take advantage of those offers. Also, the Best Buy store card may be harder to get approved for than the Mastercard, it's definitely a good card to have because it will grow with you and they issue higher initial CL's.

I use my ChaMu card for small purchases and pay before the statement closes so I wouldn't know.

thanks hjm331....just to make sure...do you think i have a chance with best buy mastercard(backed by hsbc)...or should i try another store card like jc penny or home depot....
n.b hsbc went into co(about 5000.00) and i never paid ..
_also...how many store cards i should have and do you what is the easiest gas card(shell..chevron...etc) to qualify for....
thank you so much....

I believe you have a good chance with HSBC especially after Citi approving you for a secured card. I'm not a fan of having too many store cards unless you can take advantage of their coupons and rewards. I'd rather have a Visa or Mastercard so I can use it wherever I want, not just at that certain store.

I would apply for the HSBC Best Buy Mastercard and see what happens.

HSBC gives credit cards to pretty much anyone. I do also believe that they give second chances. As long as you have some credit history, they will approve you. Make sure that you would be able to pay the annual fee though. Some consumers apply for the card and then end up closing the account without activating it because they don't want to pay the annual fee. I don't know why they though do that because it's a waste of time and a credit pull. All the information you need is right there in Terms and Conditions.

Speaking of Best Buy Mastercard, I told my friend to apply for it and he was approved for an initial CL of $320. I don't know if this made a difference or not but I had added him as an AU on my BoA Visa a few months ago and that account will be two years old in June. He received the card in a week, I told him to call customer service so he can have the annual fee reduced ($79) and he ended up having his annual fee reduced by 50 percent ($39.50) and also got a $150 CLI. I think that's a pretty good deal for someone without any credit in his name.

The reason why I shared that story is to show everyone that nothing is impossible especially with so many opportunities out there thanks to HSBC and Capital One. I hope this helps "Adamhamdy" and all our fellow readers.

Adam,

How many inquiries do you have now? You may need to keep new applications at a minimum.

Like HJM said, HSBC is a good rebuilder card and yes, the Reward Zone MasterCard is easier to obtain for some reason; just be prepared to be at the same credit line for many years.

It sounds like you have had some luck with Citibank. My advice is to just hunker down and play the waiting game. Let your accounts age, let the inquiries fall off and then before you know it your Citibank will be unsecured and you should get a CLI. At that point you may try for the Capital One.

Heres something odd. Now that Chase has full control over the WaMu credit cards, the APR was raised. But today when I checked my account it actually has a lower minimum payment. I checked and double checked but my balance has been stationary so I wouldnt expect the minimum payment to change, but it went down a whole $10. On my other card that was a MyPoints Visa the minimum went down $5. Has anyone encountered this?????

If you want a Best Buy card, you should apply for the Best Buy Mastercard because for some odd reason, the Best Buy store card is harder to get approved for than the Mastercard. Depending on your credit, if approved for the BB Mastercard, you will either get approved for the "Gold" tier or "Platinum" tier. Those who get approved for the gold card will have to pay an annual fee and won't be granted too many CLI's. Those who get approved for the platinum card will not be charged an annual fee and will see more CLI's over time.

The Best Buy Mastercard is backed by HSBC Bank so it's a good rebuilder card.
