if i close the one first premier account now.... it will continue to age even though it is a closed account? is that because it would be on my report as a "closed paid as agreed account" or something like that? i do have others reporting.... the other first premier, cardinal bank, (which is a secured cd loan i just got with them), my buckle charge card through wfnnb, and now hsbc. i think i have the right accounts now to age and really raise my score, as the baddies get older too. fees for both first premiers is too much

It will remain on the bureaus as an account opened at a certain date. So it will not hurt you to have it on there even as closed. You are doing yourself a favor by kicking them to the curb. Any point reduction you may experience will be small and temporary.

Adamhamdy and Wanderer, there's no substitute for patience and the time you put in to work on your credit.

Kforbes, you can go ahead and close your First Premier accounts now that you have another card that you can use. Closing your FP accounts will not hurt your scores because they will stay on your reports for 10 years and continue to age.

Just as other posters have stated, you need to take it slow... "...one day at a time..."! It is hard of this I know. I am eight years out of a BK 09/2001 and most credit card banks still treat me like a diseased animal. Not one spot on my entire credit record in eight years but the BK. I am told slowly does it and patience. Frankly it gets hard to live with $200 to $500 credit limits. Go out of town and a motel will hold a couple of nights and extras and WOW you are out of CL when you try for gas... Yeah I know how it can be. Frustrating. Lenders only care about themselves! But they have the credit and we need it. Like the man who has the gold rules!

"thank you colonative and hjm for your info....it really nice to have somebody who can give an informed advice about issues like these ..i will take you advice for now and hopefully i do not get an other itch again to open a new card before 6 months:cheesing:..
again thank you so much"

Going to hold you to no itches!!!

Hey everyone. i had applied for the household bank platinum mastercard like 2 weeks ago, ended up having to mail them $19 processing fee, i checked application status online today, and it said congratulations, you have been approved for a $500 credit line. my question is this, i have one first premier card that is turning a year old this month, and one that is turning 6 months this month. would i really take that much of a hit on my fico score at this point if i closed the 6 month old first premier? i am tired of paying double fees and now i have a better card with higher cl anyway. i want to keep the year old one because it is my oldest account in good standing.

If you REALLY need a second credit card, go with HSBC/Orchard Bank. They're cards also come with annual fees but they're easy cards to get approved for. They start you off with small limits ranging from $300 to $500 and don't really grow with you but help you build history and open doors to prime cards.

Just like I said in my last post and as HJM just reiterated, I suggest you wait until March for the Citibank card to become unsecurred. You may be able to get one of those Capital One accounts; however, they are charging an annual fee which means it is one of their lower cards. I really think waiting 6 months will benefit you in the long run.

Adamhandy, I would wait another 6 months to apply for the Capital One card. You will have a better chance of getting approved with the Citi card reporting as "revolving" rather than "secured". If you can wait another 6 months without applying for credit, then you will be doing yourself a favor and setting yourself up for approvals.

If you are being declined by Capital One that really speaks volumes. They do have standards but they are usually the easiest to get.

Go to this website and enter your information to see if you are pre-qualified. It is a soft inquiry so only you and the credit bureau will see it]https://cardfinder.capitalone.com/CapOne/findMyOffer.do?ex=R&pr=&id=&tg=7&pnt=ZZZZ00ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ&ch=UNS&wtg=01[/URL]

If they cannot find anything for you I strongly suggest waiting until next March for Citibank to become unsecurred. It is only 6 months away now. Your other option is to try for the Best Buy MasterCard; however, it is a terrible card and the measly $300 limit they may give you would not help you much. I will advise you again that only time will give you a better credit history. I really want to urge you to wait until March because then Citibank will unsecure your card (thus making it a normal revolving trade and not securred) and they usually will give you a CLI. That will help in two ways, an unsecurred card with possibly a $1,000 limit. Plus in 6 months all of your inquiries will be older. Banks are really looking at recent inquiries so even if you do have a 675 bureau score, too many inquiries will raise red flags.

hhh..i am little confused now....is that good news or bad news?....if it is good news...which card will be the easiest to get into the doors with capital one.....what do you suggest..should i try again using lets say average history and low apr from the menu...what do suggest...?thank you colonative...
