I was sent an invite from Cap 1 platinum and was approved 2 months ago. I also just applied and was approved for an Orchard Bank Platinum. I just applied for a Hooters card online and got the 7-10 message and would like to add one more card to my profile. Can anyone make any good suggestions ? I'd like to avoid any of the frist premiere cards (ie first premiere, centennnial, aventum). Any lower credit criteria cards available for me from someone like Discover, BOA, or Citi ?
Exactly what HJM said. There are really no other "prime" sub prime cards unless you look into something from Barclay's Bank Delaware. But I strongly suggest that you stick to what you have now. Did you get the credit steps from Capital One? If so that is great, your credit line will start to grow. I would say in a year apply for a Macy's card (if you didn't include them in your bankruptcy).
Also, within a year or two you should look into joining a credit union that offers a secured credit card and apply. Like HJM said, only time will start to heal your credit but you are off to all the right starts. Capital One, Orchard and in a year Macy's.

no, i have only had my hsbc mastercard for 5 months now. i am definitley not going to close my hsbc or my wells fargo cards till my credit gets beter. only reason i have the wells gargo card is because it converted from my secured card. credit unions do seem like a good idea, only thing with me there are none with any branches close to me. there are just small local community banks. 3 of them. which may be a good idea. i am eligible to join the oklahoma state employees credit union though, since i work for the state.
Also I found that Oklahoma State Employees Credit Union is apart of the convenient CU-Services.

Most credit unions nowadays are part of the CU-serivecs. If your credit union is, this allows you to use any participating CU-services credit union to bank at. In fact, I bank more at a credit union that isn't my actual bank - all thanks to the shared branch system provided by the CU-services. As well you gain free Atm usage at all CO-OP Atms, which has over 28,000 atms. Those include all credit unions atms, 7-Eleven stores, and various community banks. Credit Unions are very convenient.
http://www.cuswirl.com/Home/p/295627/Default.aspx

Sounds great. You may also look into Security Service FCU based in Texas. One of my credit unions was recently purchased by SSFCU and they have a great rate on their Visa Gold and Gold MasterCard (8.00%). Credit unions do not have shareholders, so their profits are returned to members in the form of lower rates.

IMHO the CARD Act is going to do more harm than good. But what is done, is done. Isn't WFFNB the company that is going to start charging $1 a month to receive a paper statement? I strongly suggest joining a credit union if you are not already a member of one. Their credit card rates are also variable; however, they are generally lower than most banks and typically a credit union cardhholder will not get hit with rate increases (aside from the Prime Rate increasing). Please find the following link for fining a credit union]http://www.creditunion.coop/cu_locator/quickfind.php. You may also ask your employer's HR office if they sponser a benefit to join a credit union. Shop around though, these days most credit unions have opened up their credit unions to just about anybody. You will want to find one that is strong and that has great rates. I have found that larger, national credit unions are best. If you are military or have a family member that is military you can't do any better than Navy FCU or USAA (not a credit union but join if you can). Large, strong credit unions can offer the best rates, though as Joeyman pointed out in another post, some local credit unions can as well. Also, if you join a smaller credit union be careful, some do not issue their own cards and rely on Elan Card Services, FIA Card Services (BofA) and First National Bank of Omaha to issue their cards. Obviously, keep your prime HSBC and Wells Fargo cards, but if you ever need to revolve a balance, you can't beat a credit union.
On top of all the rate benefits, I love knowing that I am with a not-for-profit financial cooperative. Typically the board is all volunteer positions. I use my credit union for all my regular banking needs as well. The shared branch system with the CU Services has made them very convenient, as well the CO-OP atm network. The benefits include so many diverse needs, I would suggest everyone banking with a credit union.
Funny credit union story:
I'm standing at the counter banking, I look over to the drive-thru window and see a classic mom talking to the branch manager. She didn't know it was the branch manager through the drive-thru window. She must have flashed some kind of Chase receipt. The manager was initially taking a credit card payment. The manager began talking about Chase (this was after the WAMU + Chase merge), she started ranting about how Chase was charging for checking accounts, and their low investment rates. Of course after targeting Chase she started talking about the perks of banking with a credit union, the lady responded that she was very satisfied with her Visa and began pulling around to come inside! I was shocked... The manager met her near the door and they went and sat down. That dedicated manager is converting one person at a time. Haha! Power to the credit unions!

Hey everyone. i am not sure what to think of the new card act coming into effect next month now..... i had closed some of my cards now that my scores have improved. every card i have left open has sent me change in terms notice except for one.
my ge money mastercard, and my wells fargo platinum accounts have both raised rate, plus changed to variable. my wfnnb store card changed to variable also.
my hsbc card is still 8.9% variable. no notice yet

my interest rates right now are not sky high, but not low either. i know they will do nothing but go up as prime rate goes up.
has everyone been getting change in terms notices for changing to variable rates too?
