Meya, as Eric said there are tons of programs out there for anyone that wants to start a business. I have attended some workshops given by the small business administration especially geared toward minority women wanting to start a business.

My brother and me are planning a small technology consultancy. We both work in the technology field and have decided that we should be working for ourselves.

I would like to start a small business too but as of right now, I have not written a plan. Hopefully when my schedule lightens or in between I can begin to write one.

Are there any small business owners here that can contribute information to this thread?

Also i do have a small business that I run on the side selling DVD's and CD's on eBay & Amazon...I say revenue wise for me -an extra $1k a month income. Christmas time (Oct, Nov, Dec)- Hmmm an extra $2k or $3k a month... I spend maybe 20-30 hrs a month doing it.

Has anyone here began or already started up a new business? I plan to open my own beauty salon in Atlanta Georgia in a few years. Although I have learned alot since I have been in college, I would like to hear some advise from someone who is not lecturing from a book. I have been to the Small Business Administration office and researched good tips, but I know credit and a good business plan plays a good roll when trying to borrow money. One of the library asssistance there was explaining the BA7 loans to me but I kind of thought saving money for myself just in case something happens. I have a good exit strategy, but at the same time I am nervous. Can someone give me some good advice, I will be more than willing to listen.

I will say this Meya...there are ALOT of government programs that would help you out. I'll tell you why. First your a women, second your black. Im serious about this...minorities and women will always get the maximum help when it comes to opening a business. I remember 3 years ago my friend (who is white) wanted me to go in with him and 2 other guys on a business. Well they were all white, and my friend said hey I need ya because your black haha...He's not racist or anything but he was right. I never did do the deal because his business plans had too many holes in it.

Startups are so easy to setup nowadays but so hard to remain in business for long. I always had to remind myself that business realities remain whether you are in the real world or cyberspace. Good luck to everyone!

This is another article we felt could be VERY helpful for those trying to write business plans. If you have comments, or if it's helpful, please let us know. :-) We've been writing business proposals for going-on 15 years together, and these steps clearly outline best to investors, bankers and financial experts what your business is all about, where it is and where it's going. Enjoy!
