Hello everyone...I am so glad that I subscribed to this network! It has really been helpful reading all the reviews etc. I am 25 with poor credit scores ranging from 470-508. I recently decided that I wanted to get my own home and not rely on my parentals (lol)...so I went to a new home builder that had a credit rebuilding program for people like me...I have only had one credit card in my life with Capitol One, (which I got in college and is now a collection on my credit). Now I have a secured credit card with my credit union with a credit limit of $300 and I am going to increase the limit in $100 increments...I would determined to get my credit scores up the 650-700 range...any suggestions?

Create a budget and mix your credit (Hjm's suggestion). And just keep doing what you're doing! Also if you haven't paid all your collections, do that asap.

You need to add a couple more tradelines to your credit reports. I recommend you using the Best Buy Rewardzone MC Pre-selector tool. It pre-qualifies you for one of their credit cards and in most cases, there will be an instant approval. The Gold tier used to have an annual fee but a couple of days ago, I noticed that they got rid of the annual fee. The Gold tier is for rebuilders as Platinum is for those with good/excellent credit.

Just google search "rewardzone pre-selector" and the link can be found within the first couple search results.

Joeyman - nice! I followed suit and closed three Capital One accounts, Barclay's $1,200 reduced to $500 and a Wells Fargo account. Went to JC Penney's and bought a "Relic" wallet (fit my "Baby Boomer" status). Believe this, Transunion rapped me for having too many accounts so I knew it was time. Also, the big boy banks such as Citi have started going to $60 AF or a repay if you spend $2,400 a year. Can't afford all the cards at that rate. Truth is I acquired all the accounts due to small credit lines. Finally I have just a few accounts and decent credit lines. It took me eight years since the BK of 2001 to get there... It feels good now to have my smallest credit line as $7,500. I did have some of $500 CL. Remember, you are never to old to learn. :piggy:

Joeyman - how's that new wallet doing? I know one good old soldier (green beret - me) that will help you guard it! Signed the wanderer?

It's going great! I decided I only need to hold my debit card, credit union visa, and secondary bank debit card from now on. It feels so empty - yet clean and refreshing. L0l. Real italian leather to be honest, and only $25 thanks to Nordstroms Rack. :p

All - in today's world you can get real American Express Cards (account numbers start with "3") through Citi Bank, Bank of America and others that allow you what American Express does and usually large side benefits in the way of rewards programs. I love my HSBC American Express Plus Rewards program and my CL is $10K with 9.9% Apr along with 25 days grace. Used to have a regular AX. :cc: Also, I receive 1.25 points for every dollar spent net... and it is easy to use!
