Yes, it was six months and I went from $1,000 initial CL to ultimately with several increases to $2,400 CL. Note I really only need about $500. At the time JC Penney was the only one giving me CL's increases (only when I requested them - no automatics) so I kept at it. Use the card a lot and PIF every month. At this time I quit asking for CL increases as I don't need anymore.

Thanks Wanderer. I will try that. You have a pretty good limit from the start. At least now I know that I am not alone.

Did you wait 6 months before contacting JC Penney for a CLI?

For what it is worth, JC Penney never gave me an automatic CL. Always had to contact them. They did increase me but not automatically. They also did NOT do a hard inquiry. Had the account for three plus years.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it was a no go. I am very baffled. As I read through the posts, almost everyone got an increase after 4 statements for JC Penney. Maybe I am not charging enough on it. My limit is only 200.00, so I stay within the 30% range. Maybe I should max it and pay it off the same day. I am going to give it a while longer and see what happens.

My fourth statement from JC Penneys closed, so I asked for a CLI. They denied me. What's up with that? I called in and asked, the CSR said I need to wait 6 months for a possible CLI. That information doesn't sound correct. Please help me out here FG Family.[/QUOTE

My JCP went from 100$ to 1,000$ in 4 months. I thought 100 was measley, I'd go in once a month and make a purchase for 80-100$ on my card and then pay it off in cash immediately after. Before I even left the store. My husband also had an increase to 500$, paying the minimum. Call back.

Capitol One finally gave me a small increase- from $300 to $500. Took 6 months. Also noticed my Orchard now reports as "Cap One".

I have a Discover Escape with $2000 limit. I use it heavily and only use Orchard and Capitol One occasionally.

I agree with the previous threads, there is only one step with Capital One. It goes from $500 to $750 after six months. If you are thinking about calling for a credit limit increase don't waste your time, I tried. I had two accounts with them, one for $500 and the other for $750 for over two years. I missed no payments or was never over the credit line by any stretch but did use them quite a bit. They did allow me to build my credit score up to the point I was able to get a Discover More and a Chase Freedom card with great credit limits. I closed the lower limit Capital One account but am keeping the other open until the annual fee is due and then close it. Reason being I do not want my average age of accounts to be decreased and effect my credit score. Hope this helps those out there looking to build their credit back up.:cheesing:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but almost everything that I have read indicates that the Credit Steps Program is actually just one step. I have called customer service to get further clarification, but what I have found is that each CSR has a different story. Most have stated that there is only one "sure" CLI through the Credit Steps Program (of course the letter stipulations apply). All other increases are based on "other" factors. The same factors that sent you to Capital One in the first place! To sum it all up, you probably will not get any more increases. I am not saying there not any exceptions to the rule, but more than likely you will be stuck with the $750.00 limit.

Thanks for the update...I guess that's it with them, they did give me the $0 annual fee, so I'm kicking the Orchard bank ($700 limit with $59 annual) for now. I have (old navy, jcp, amazon, walmart, belk, and lowes) store cards because that's where my husband and I shop alot. I'm just really hoping my walmart card can be upgraded to a discover brand as GE bank already did that with Old Navy to a visa version, and if BofA (opened in March 2012 with $500 CL) can give me CLI then I'll look at kicking capital one soon too. After reading plenty of post on here, I thought Capital One might cap at $750, oh well....I'll use it when I can and then kick it.

Found myself in the Capital One "Credit Steps" program and it exactly followed what classy75 has stated. Capital One wouldn't increase my CL so I kicked them down the road. Why Capital One can't get beyond acting like a sub-prime card issuer is beyond me??? Today they offer some really good cards but they think and act like a sub-prime bank. Oh yeah... my maximum credit line was $750.

It sounds like Capital One is true to their words. CLI from $500 to $750 after 6 months. How high do these Cap1 cards go as I hear they cap it around $750-$1000?

You do need to wait 6 months for a credit limit increase that you, the consumer initiates. GE Capital usually will give an automatic credit increase after 4 months of good use, as that is really the only way to get one before the 6 month mark.

Thanks.
