These Expenses Could be Sinking Your Budget

sinking-budget

When you look at your budget are you happy with what you see? Have you come to realize that you just can’t get some expenses under control? Are you having a difficult time even understanding where your money is going?

Even if you have a firm grasp on your budget, you know that things can quickly spiral out of control. And that’s why you have a budget in the first place.

With this in mind, it’s important to become familiar with some of the many expenses that could sink your budget now or in the future. Here are three that constantly sneak up on people:

1. Cable and Internet

With the average cable television bill hovering right around $103 (an all-time high), don’t be surprised if this is taking a big bite out of your budget. Even worse is the fact that your cable company may attempt to increase your cost every year or so (if not more often).

When you add in the cost of internet service, it’s possible that your total monthly expense could push close to or in excess of $200.

Even if this isn’t a lot for you right now, it doesn’t mean you should be foolish with your money. It may be time to shop around for a better deal.

2. Dining Out

As fun as it may be, dining out too often has a way of putting a dent in your budget. Adding to this, if you’re taking your family with you, the cost can really skyrocket.

There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself every now and again, but you should come to realize just how much you can save by eating in.

3. Fuel for Your Car

The average cost of gas is approximately $2.45/gallon. This is far from the all-time high, but it’s not cheap either.

If you’re spending too much on fuel, there are a few things you can do to save. First off, take a closer look at the cost of public transportation. This may be the best way to save. Also, begin your search for a carpool group and get into the habit of combining tasks while you’re out.

Final Thoughts

These are just a few of the many expenses that could be sinking your budget. If one or more of these is causing you trouble, don’t learn to live with it. It’s time to make a change!

Every month I look at how much I spent on eating out and it makes me very angry! It is crazy how eating out adds up. This is my major goal for 2018! I need to stop spending so much on eating out.
