How to Save on Your Water Bill this Spring

water-down-drain

With the spring season in full swing, it’s time to take a strong look at your water usage and the changes you can make to save money in the months to come.

Like many people, you may find your water bill going through the roof during this time of the year. Rather than go down the same path this year, there are a few basic changes you can make to save some money. Here are some ideas to consider:

•    Be careful about how much and when you water your lawn and garden. Yes, your lawn and garden need water to survive. However, you should think long and hard about how much and when you apply water, as this can help you save. For example, watering in the middle of a hot spring day is a mistake. Instead, opt for the morning hours when the water is less likely to quickly evaporate.
•    Take shorter showers. When the temperatures heat up it goes without saying that a long, cold shower can do your body a lot of good. Unfortunately, this can quickly lead to an increase in your water bill. Set a time limit on yourself and do your best to stick with it.
•    Run full loads of laundry. During spring, you may find yourself spending more time outdoors. From working out to yard work, you’re always on the run. This can lead to more dirty laundry than you’re used to. Subsequently, you may find yourself cleaning a load of laundry more often than you’d like. From a financial perspective, it makes good sense to only run your washing machine when it’s full.

These are not the only ways to save on your water bill this spring, but all of these tips can absolutely help.

I usually try to only water my plants and lawn when its needed. Given if it rains a lot, I save on my water bill!
