3 Things to Negotiate With Your Cable Company

tv-no-cable-fuzz

Even with alternatives – such as streaming live TV services – cable companies continue to charge an arm and a leg.

If you’re tired of overpaying, but not yet ready to cut the cord, it’s time to contact your cable company with the idea of negotiating a better deal.

Once you make the call, there are three distinct things you should negotiate with your cable company:

1. Cost of Service

This is the big one, as any money you save is money in your pocket. The thing to remember here is that you want to keep the same level of service, if possible, all the while securing a lower price.

It sounds like a big ask, but it’s the best place to start. If you’re successful, you’ll find yourself paying less money for the same channels.

2. Number of Channels

If your price continues to creep higher and higher, all the while getting nothing in return, you should consider asking for additional channels.

Your cable company will try to charge you for these channels, but that’s where the negotiation comes into play.

Let them know that you want to keep the same package, but receive more channels in return.

Again, you may feel that you’re fighting an uphill battle, but there are promotions available that allow you to score such a deal.

3. Contract Length

Many cable companies ask that you agree to a long contract – often up to 24 months – in order to receive special pricing or a promotional package.

While there’s nothing wrong with locking in a good deal, don’t forget that you can negotiate it down.

If you’re not comfortable with a 24 month contract, tell your cable company you’ll sign for 12 and then revisit at that point. You may be surprised to find that they comply with your request.

There’s nothing fun about calling your cable company in an attempt to negotiate on one or more of the above details. However, if you achieve success, it’s sure to put a smile on your face.

Call your cable company atleast once every 6 months to get a refresh of new deals. They usually can offer you a low rate.
