Thanks again Lyysa01 and you too Meya! FYI, my credit union sent me a letter confirming the increase and told me that I had to sign it and return it to them within 20 days or they would drop it back down to $5k ! Did they think that I was ?! I signed that agreement so fast that I almost broke a fingernail ! I'm still doing the birthday dance!

Realtorbel, congratulations!!! OMG, that credit line is AWESOME!! I think that is wonderful, and I'm so glad to hear it worked out for you. Just be sure to pass the word around about what a friend your credit union can be... especially when repairing your credit.
BTW, your post makes me feel all happy inside. I feel like I've accomplished a good deed.

Replied by realtorbel on topic Lyyssa01, Thanks for the info
Lyyssa01, Thanks for the info ! I took your advice and I called my credit union where I have a fairly new personal loan 11/07 for $15k to see if I would qualify for a visa card with them and to my surprise, I was approved for $5k at 9.99% ! I was soooooooo excited because I had just started re-building my credit 4/07 when I started out with a Orchard card $300 cl. Since then well it gets kind of scary (application addict) so I'll save that for another post... Anyways, back to the credit union so keep in mind that this is my highest card - $5k right so afterwards, I got to thinking that I wish that I'd asked for more so I called them back and asked them if I would qualify for a higher limit because I wanted to transfer about $6k over to this card without maxing it out and guess what?! They approved me for $12k ! This isn't the end of the madness, since I was on a roll, I asked them if I would be able to refinance my hubby's car loan ($32k -16.99%) from a finance co with them for their rate of 5.99% and she put me on hold and came back and said YES we would qualified for it as long as I was the applicant and he was the co-applicant ! My fico scores are in the low to mid 600's and my hubby's are in the upper 500's to low 600's but I think my credit union uses a pinnacle score and I dont know what that is so the point of my reply is to say Thank YOU Thank YOU for giving me the idea to make that call! The only neg. thing about this was that they pulled my EQ 3x's! But Oh wells the savings will be worth it and not to mention how my score should jump once those other accounts show 0 and I have higher limits showing on my report!

Replied by lyyssa01 on topic Dreamr, I would recommend trying
Dreamr, I would recommend trying to get in with a local cu if you can. Some cu you have to be part of an oganization, but there are others that allow you in as long as you live in a certain county.
The cu that I've been having experience with is Navy Federal Credit Union, and I can't encourage people enough to look into these guys. They're as friendly as they come, although high dti scares them. But if approved (and their approvals are usually pretty easy) the credit limits are high and apr reasonable. I've heard of more success stories with these guys than anything else. If someone was declined it usually had something to do with their dti.
I've also heard good things about NASA, Christian and JFCU, but I don't know much about those guys.
If you're interested there are all kinds of good information about these guys all over finance forums.

I've never thought about going through a credit union. So what credit union would you suggest me going through? I know I need to find out my credit score because I want to know what it is.

Replied by lyyssa01 on topic HJM, JFCU is one credit
HJM, JFCU is one credit union that people get in by joining the National Sherrifs Association which is $30. It's very easy, and one of the better credit unions. Navy Fed you do have to be in the military or have a family member. The member can be a brother, father, cousin, step cousin, uncle brother's sister, just as long as you're related. Those are the two I know of, but there are many different organizations and credit unions to check out.

This posting was in response to Lyyssa01 in a previous thread[/b]
I do hear a lot of people who wants to apply for CU cards instead of regular cc's and I also heard of the approval rates being much higer at CU's. I have never tried them, but was thinking seriously about trying to make that my next move. I don't know, I might just stay with teir ones because I am going to bust amex open.
Right on Lyyssaa, thanks for the feedback. Now I am rethinking about this because it is a major step and a better step towards enormous tradlines.
This was the main purpose, I am glad that you responded in time becasue I was just about to ask you a question. Does the person who sponsor you have to have good credit themselves?

Replied by lyyssa01 on topic When people are working on
When people are working on establishing credit by opening new tradelines one wonderful method is often overlooked: credit unions. Credit unions are much more forgiving of people who have had trouble in the past, as well as generous with their credit limits. The experience that I've talked about on these forums has been with Navy Federal Credit Union.
My hubby and I have started cleaning up our scores in January of this year. When we started my hubby's score was in the high 500s to low 600s, and a handful of 30 days late from 2 years ago. We paid off some debt and his score jumped to mid to high 600s.
We then decided to switch from our bank to NFCU, and also applied for one of their cards and a line of credit in his name. In two weeks he was approved for 32k worth of credit. He was instantly approved for a cc for 17,5k and a LOC for 15k. If you guys want to improve your utilization I would highly encourage you to try and get in with Navy Fed. Ask a relative, kidnap a sailor, or make a kid join the Navy so you can get the hook up. Hubby spent 10 years in the Navy, and since he still has ties to the military via the VA he was eligible. If you open an account and leave a min. of $5 in you're a member for life.
NFCU is one of the friendliest and most generous CU I have ever seen. Before I had dh apply for his cc and the LOC I did research on the approval rates. I was amazed. People with BKs, tax liens, scores in the mid to high 500s, getting approved for cards anywhere between $4000-15000.
I also read a Consumer Reports article from October of 2007 that had a list of the best credit cards. The top three were all CU cards, Navy Fed was #2. #1 was USAA.
Another CU called JFCU that is also wonderful with customers, but they do cap new customers at $5000. My understanding is that most people get in by joining the National Sherrifs Association which is $30.
Of course, not all credit unions are perfect. I've heard of people complaining about their cu not giving them any love, but as a rule, most cu (especially the biggies, like NFCU) are great places to restablish credit. Some misc. things I've also learned is that they mostly pull EQ, and they do decline for high DTI ratio, so please be aware before applying.
Either which way, I strongly encourage people to look into credit unions when trying to improve credit. I hope this helps!
