Exercising is very important, but can be hard to do on a budget. However, you do not need a pricey gym membership or fancy equipment to get regular exercise. With a little creativity, you can find many ways to exercise for little or no money. Below a several ways to exercise without breaking the bank.
- Take a walk: Walking is one of the easiest and least expensive forms of exercise. All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes. Walking gives you a great workout that you can tailor to your own fitness level. You just need to make sure you are walking fast enough to get exercise. Also, it can be a good way to walk the dog, talk with friends or family, and/or walk to an errand.
- Create a home gym: You do not need expensive exercise gear and equipment to have a home gym. By making the most of what you already have, you can work out at home with a little investment. This can include using stairs as exercise, running around your house, or using everyday items as weights.
- Use free exercise resources: There is lots of free information out there to get a good exercise. Some options include:
- Library: Many libraries offer a wealth of information like videos and books about exercise, healthy eating, and fitness.
- Internet: The internet is a great resource for free exercise information and workouts.
- Running or walking clubs: Some local walking and running clubs are free. And even if there is a small fee, it is usually not very expensive.
- Your friends and neighbors: Another idea to consider is asking friends and neighbors to share things like bicycles, exercise videos or other equipment.
- Bodyweight workouts: You don't need any equipment to get a great workout, provided you work hard. A number of exercises require nothing more than your body. This includes squats, lunges, pushups, dips, triceps dips, and back extensions.
- Low cost sports/activities: Many sports and activities are free or cost little to begin with.
- Free classes: Many cities and towns offer free fitness classes for the public. Check your local paper or look online to find out what's available in your area.
- Use local courts: Most communities have public basketball and tennis courts.
- Go swimming: Find a local pool or lake and go for a swim.
- Try other low-cost options: Try ice-skating, jogging, hiking, volleyball, or in-line skating.
