When you head to the office, you know one thing to be true: you are going to make some money. But is there a chance you are wasting money along the way as well?
Believe it or not, some people spend hundreds of dollars per month at their place of employment. Worse yet, they don’t truly realize what is going on or just how much money is flying out of their pocket.
Here are three ways you may be wasting money at the office:
1. Vending machines. It is just a dollar here and a dollar there. You may believe this to be true, but all those dollars (and coins) can add up over time. Imagine this: you spend two dollars per day on a drink and bag of chips. By the end of the month, you have parted with $40 or so. This works out to approximately $500 over the course of the year.
2. Leaving for lunch. For some, it is hard to get into the habit of eating lunch at their office. This may not be something you want to do, but eating out every day can take a toll on your bank account.
Even if you only spend $5 per lunch, this is still more than $100 every month. By the end of the year, you have spent roughly $1,200 eating out. Wouldn’t it be better to bring some leftovers from home?
3. Buying too much, too often from other workers. There is nothing wrong with buying a box of Girl Scout cookies every now and again. However, it is not uncommon to be presented with a new offer on a regular basis. Some of your coworkers are sure to have kids who are selling something for a club or organization.
You want to be nice by making a purchase. At the same time, you don’t want this to impact you financially.
If you eliminate these three things from your work life, or at least cutback, you will find yourself saving hundreds (or maybe thousands) of dollars every year.
