Especially if you want to stay local that is a great idea. The large national websites are better if you want to move to another area.

I have to agree with cents on this one, especially since I was recently unemployed and found my new job by taking advantage of the resources available to me from the unemployment office. It couldn't hurt to check and see if the resources are open to others.

It has never occurred to me to use Craigslist for job hunting. My husband always uses Indeed when looking for work. He is contracted as a third party employee and changes companies as often as three times a year.

Is there a certain industry Craiglist focuses on? Or do they only have specific or part-time jobs?

When I was looking for jobs in a different state it was recommended that I use Craigslist. I found a few different things on there, but nothing that seemed reliable. I would stick with Indeed.com or Monster.com. They seem to have the best reputations.

That is good to hear. I still probably would not apply for a job there. For me craigslist is used to buy used things and maybe sports tickets. I don't think I will ever use it for getting a job. That is just my opinion though.

I heard recently that Craigslist is getting stricter about posting, as in making it more difficult, which sounds like a good move. It used to have such a bad name for spammers and cheats. I think it will take a lot to make me want to use them again though. Would you apply for a job you saw posted there?

Oddly enough, Craig's List is being used a lot more in my area than other options, like newspaper classified ads. Jobs and even apartments are showing up there instead of other places. I know it's free to post in Craig's List but I don't think classifieds are very expensive so I doubt it's the cost that is causing this shift.

Curry, I am interested as I have never used Craigslist. What kind of jobs are you finding on Craigslist? Are they full-time, temporary and what kind of industries are there?

I have always been partial to Craig's List. True, there are the scam jobs that get posted just to get your e-mail from a reply, but for the most part I have always had good luck there.

I would 2nd the support to Indeed.com. I think it is a great website for employment opportunities. Also if you don't mind being emailed a lot, it can provide you a lot of information of new jobs in your area/criteria.

I swear by Indeed.com. I have found many great new opportunities on this employment website. The best thing about Indeed.com is that they email daily with any new jobs in my area. You select the criteria that you are looking for and they will email you.

Thankyou for your response, it would be helpful for many. But what I would like to know here is that are these companies global. I mean to say whether these companies provide job opportunities the world over and for or from any part of the world? Thanks for any response.
Part of the job search is doing your own investigations into the companies. When interviewing they expect you to know what their reach is and so on. Not to have some one else do it.
