This topic came up again the other day during a conversation with a computer savvy friend, and he swears by using a secure password service to store all logins. Maybe that is something worth considering as an extra layer of security?

I never thought about surfing the net while doing online banking. I thought I was pretty safe but I sometimes do have more than one window open in my browser. I need to be more careful.

I also use a secured router and I live in very close proximity to other people. So far I have never had an issue doing any of my purchasing or paying online. It is definitely worth the investment if you ask me.

I like that you tested the router range, that is something wouldn't have thought of. I was not too bothered by this issue until a friend found out someone was using her secured connection, no ides how. She lives in a densely populated area though.

Interesting ... truth be told I use both methods. The Direct wire to the modem/router seems to be faster but as to security I use a secured Modem/Router and have not had any problems for five years. Note, there are few people that live close to me and my modem/router virtually only covers my site location and not much beyond. Tested this two months ago. In a densely close populated area my answer might be different.

What kind of connection do you use when logging onto your Internet banking site? I used to use (secured) WiFi, but recently I started connecting the computer directly to the modem instead. Maybe I am being over cautious but it does seem a bit safer.

Currently out of BFSI banking has the most secure environment as they have to deal with money, when it comes to online banking the grades of security increased by 10 folds even if something goes wrong you can always back track it, but first be careful on your side after all its your money.

Hi Meya,
Yes, this one very good habit to avoid multitasking while banking online. We always get emails from bank end for the same doesn't use other online program and don't share or click any link which asking for bank detail or related question. There are lots of way to avoid such thing which we should follow.

This is a very important write up! I choose online banking as a way to track spending habits and for bill-pay convenience. Yes you are correct Mary, it is very important for consumers to check for the "lock" symbol for verification, encryption, and picture symbols (if offered) prior to proceeding full information. I had spammers send me messages stating that my account needs to be updated or that my account was locked due to numerous attempts. They then ask if we would click the link to update our account. "No way Buddie", I have my banks spam abuse address bookmarked, so I just forward it the moment I see such fraudulent emails.
Another thing we should be careful about is multitasking while banking online. It is very crucial that we close our browser and restart after leaving a website and before we sign-in to our banking institutions. Keystrokes and browsing is very easy for hackers to retrieve information from us. I used to click on a new tab or move on to my online banking after visiting a website until I was cautioned by my bank.
