I didn't even know that myself until just recently. If the platinum doesn't work out, then I will go with a gold card with the $125 annual fee.

Eldarwen you just taught me something new because I thought they only had one gold charge card, but I haven't been keeping up with Amex that much lately. I checked out their website and it appears the only difference between the two is the amount of travel accident coverage available: up to 100K-$125 annual fee; and up to 200K-$150 annual fee. Hmmmm. Go figure.

I see that the Amex gold card has some pretty good benefits much better benefits than the green. I can see the justification with converting from the green to the gold. There are 2 gold cards for personal use. One is $125AF and the other is $150AF. I honestly can't tell the difference between the two.

Makes sense and thanks for responding. I guess if you reap benefits that justify the fee, it does make sense. I better it looks and feels a lot better than the green one . Congratulations and enjoy!!!!!!

What made me bite is that I am going to be doing more traveling in the upcoming months (sister lives in Hawaii) and the layovers are pretty long so why not get into the airport lounges?

If you don't mind me asking Eldarwen, what made you bite the bullet?

I do believe that my annual fee will be prorated because I switched from a Green to a platinum charge card. In the letter, it said that it would be prorated. So that means that I would have to pay $355 in annuals fees. My statement cuts tomorrow and I let you know. I looked today and no annual fee has shown up yet, but it doesn't mean it will not show up in the last day of the billing cycle.

Well, I did bite and get the Platinum card from Amex. It just came in the mail today in this big butt package. I am thinking all of this paper and cardboard for a plastic card? Now if it were an Amex black card, it would be a different story. I have not started using it, but will soon!

Yes, they keep offering it to my boyfriend everytime we sign in to pay his bill, but it hasn't sold me thus far. Like I said, he rarley uses his green card so I really don't see the point for someone like him, other than to send a message, but I understand where you're coming from. More power to you.

Yeah Cnative come on down man. You always give me the other side to my Rush Limbaugh vents and what would this place be without your insight ?
charonh is right, we all have our opinions and while my vision of the "American Dream" differs from others, without feedback, be it critical or not, this site would not hold its luster.
So where we everyone ? Oh yeah the Amex Platinum..........................
Charonh, my opinion, its still the "Pit Bull" in the land of Poodles !

This is a forum where individuals should feel free to express his or her opinions. That being said, ColoNative you shouldn't be discouraged from expressing your opinion and ideals. We all are adults and should respect each other's opinion, whether we disagree with it or not. I see your point a view and a little bit of smcc's for that matter. But I'm going to stay on the fence with this one.Good lord.
Anyway, I am seriously done with this topic and I will not respond to it anymore. I give up!

WOW... This is a pretty meaty discussion... Coming out of World War II it was a vet's dream to own a home, have a car, three or more kids and sleep at night. Houses were 700 square feet on the main level with one bathroom and two bedrooms (many story and a half where you could finish the attic for more space). That equaled the American Dream of the time and I lived it. The ability to work hard and see the rewards of the effort. Boats, RV's, Jet Skis, Lake Homes, Pickup Trucks just didn't exist. As a kid one car to a family was a big deal. The American Dream is relative to the times. Some one wrote it is not the same any more. No, greed has taken us all down and frankly a rethinking of our lives is taking place (sociology talk). Living in a different era than most of you I know the wonderful feeling of neighbors, friends and family. We did not have all the materail trappings of today. We didn't care as we had each other. The possibility exists that we may just get some of that back! YES!
